DFO/Media Advisory: U.S. and Canadian Coast Guard Agencies Working Together to Strengthen Partnership

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - June 15, 2005) - The Canadian and United States Coast Guard agencies are meeting on Wednesday, June 15th and Thursday, June 16th at the U.S. Coast Guard base in Cleveland, Ohio. U.S. Commandant, Admiral Thomas H. Collins and John Adams, Commissioner of the Canadian Coast Guard and their respective delegations will be discussing areas of concern that include maritime safety, environmental protection and challenges and opportunities facing their maritime security responsibilities.

A photo opportunity is available for journalists at a signing ceremony where Admiral Collins and Commissioner Adams will sign a joint statement of future cooperation. In addition to the signing of an agreement of cooperation and the presentation of honourary awards, the two heads of the Coast Guard agencies will be handing out personal flotation devices to a group of schoolchildren.
