DFO: Minister Lucienne Robillard Announces Grant to the Municipality of Lanoraie for Municipal Wharf Project

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - May 31, 2005) - Lucienne Robillard, President of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, today announced on behalf of Geoff Regan, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, the signing of a grant agreement with the municipality of Lanoraie. The grant will enable the municipality to extend the launching ramp situated near the municipal wharf, on the shore of the St. Lawrence River.

"The extension of the launching ramp will complete the repair work that was carried out on the municipal wharf several years ago. This will allow for bigger boats to be launched and provide improved access to the St. Lawrence River even during low water periods," Mrs. Robillard stated. "Recreational boaters and other users will benefit greatly from this improved harbour facility."

The project comes under the Recreational Harbour Divestiture Program administered by the Small Craft Harbours Branch of Fisheries and Oceans Canada. The agreement provides for the transfer of ownership of the harbour facilities to the municipality of Lanoraie, which must in turn ensure continued public access to the facilities and maintain them as community assets for the prescribed term in the agreement. The work to extend the launching ramp will be carried out by the municipality of Lanoraie.
