DiCicco, Gulman & Company Adds Venyu's Cloud Backup to Asset Column

CPA Firm Scratches Costly Data Tape Backup From Books to Recoup Hundreds of IT Man-Hours

BATON ROUGE, LA and MARLBOROUGH, MA--(Marketwire - Oct 25, 2011) - Venyu, a leading technology solutions provider specializing in offsite business continuity, cloud backup and data center solutions, today announced that DiCicco, Gulman and Company LLP, a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) firm based in Woburn, Mass., is leveraging Venyu's RestartIT to transform the way the company protects and stores its many documents and files. Venyu's cloud-based enterprise backup and storage solution proved to be a better fit for the CPA firm's cost-effective and secure data strategy -- already paying dividends in terms of saving its IT staff hundreds of hours of manual labor each year.

DiCicco, Gulman and Company, a 100-employee, full service CPA firm, was already leveraging newer technologies in other aspects of data management, including a paperless environment. However, their backup and disaster recovery plan needed some updating to meet their higher standards for protection. The firm explored many options and ultimately selected Venyu's Restart IT solution as their remote backup and disaster recovery solution.

"The Venyu RestartIT solution allows my IT staff of three people to send gigabytes of the firm's crucial data to the cloud, using deduplication to keep costs in check," said Rico Barrasso, IT Manager for DiCicco, Gulman and Company. "The up-front investment we made has already paid for itself in the man-hours we have saved by eliminating the upkeep of the old tapes, freeing us up to work on other IT goals that are more important to the core business. For me, the best part of this solution is no more data storage tapes to change, store, catalog and test. My staff will never go back to tape-based storage again."

Venyu made the data backup transition process easy with the delivery of a secure hardware storage device to DiCicco, Gulman and Company's offices. The IT staff then loaded the device with the entire contents of the firm's network, which served as a starting point for the backup process. Today, all ensuing backups are done automatically over the Internet to a secure cloud environment using data deduplication that monitors each file, recognizes when it is changed and only transmits those portions of the file that have been altered. Management of the backup process, including server provisioning, file transfer scheduling, and progress measurement, is handled from Venyu's easy-to-use, web-based central management console.

Barrasso also recognizes the importance of an off-site disaster recovery plan that allows his firm to continue day-to-day operations even when the unexpected hits. "Given that we have had several natural disasters recently, including hurricanes, ice storms, tornados, severe flooding and even an earthquake, it is a relief to know that our business can continue to operate if our area is impacted by these types of interruptions," he said.

"Venyu delivers the tools needed by organizations like DiCicco, Gulman & Company to completely transform their old backup systems into modern, highly-effective components of an overall disaster recovery strategy," said Tommy Curb, Venyu VP of Business Development. "Venyu is transforming the way businesses protect, access, and restore their critical data and information; we're seeing businesses' investment in traditional software and hardware-based backup solutions like tape and NAS solutions is waning as they more confidently adopt cloud-based solutions like RestartIT."

Venyu will showcase the benefits of Restart IT live at the NorthEast Disaster Recovery Information X-Change (NEDRIX), October 24-26, 2011 at the Hyatt Regency, Newport, RI.
