CAMBRIDGE, MA--(Marketwired - October 27, 2016) - Diffeo, a knowledge discovery company, today announced that its text analytics solutions won the grand prize in the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency's Disparate Data Challenge. More than 30 companies and teams participated in the competition, which is a new aspect of the Agency's efforts to use open innovation and crowdsourcing to encourage commercial developers to tackle relevant problems and to prototype new approaches to acquisition.
"All of the judges were impressed with Diffeo," said Air Force Col. Marc DiPaolo, chief of mainstreaming capabilities in NGA's Enterprise Innovation Office. "I can envision how Diffeo could really change the search experience for analysts, executives and everyone in between."
The two-stage Disparate Data Challenge awarded prizes to participants who offer solutions that enable access to data that is wildly disparate in its formats, schemas, interfaces and locations, so that it may be available for search, business metrics and data and information analytics. Solutions were evaluated on desirability, expected global utility, technical effectiveness and viability.
Army Maj. Erwin Godoy, chief innovation strategist at NGA's Enterprise Innovation Office, added: "Diffeo gives us a whole new range of options for searching disparate data. It was an exciting find for us."
Diffeo's solutions infuse the research and analysis process with collaborative machine intelligence algorithms to provide a truly intelligent search capability. Operating on the public Web and also in private clouds, the Diffeo system automatically assembles a knowledge graph of people, places, organizations and events and their complex inter-relationships. The company's technology expands the reach of both junior and senior analysts, uncovering new information as they work by proactively recommending data to fill in knowledge gaps in the user's in-progress document.
"We are excited to have earned the top prize from NGA. The challenge provided an interesting set of data sources and formats, enabling us to show off the power of our approach," said Aaron Taylor, Director of Cloud Services at Diffeo.
Geof Milstein, VP of Federal for Diffeo, observed: "The Disparate Data Challenge is a great new way for the DOD to engage with small companies and innovators. Diffeo is changing what users expect from search, and we appreciated the opportunity to show how our innovation could directly address NGA's needs."
Diffeo's collaborative machine intelligence analyzes what you are writing, such as in an email message or notes during a meeting, and scours the Web and private data to recommend information you are missing. By automatically assembling a knowledge graph of related entities and events surrounding the user's current focus, the system explores multiple hops out to uncover "unknown unknowns."
Diffeo's products are available on Carahsoft's GSA Schedule No. GS-35F-0119Y.
