Difficulty for Immigrants in Scarborough to Integrate Into the Labour Market

MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 11, 2011) - A Statistics Canada report addresses that recent immigrants who have been in Canada five years or less, had the most difficulty integrating into the labour market, even though they were more likely than the Canadian-born population to have a post secondary education. Scarborough has a population of over 593,000 with more than half of whom were born outside of Canada, and therefore have an increased difficulty to obtain a respectable career. To alleviate the stresses on immigrants, triOS College opens its ninth campus location in Scarborough.

Research has indicated a new trend with immigrants coined "brain waste" - a term applied to immigrants who were skilled professionals in their home countries, yet are stymied in their efforts to find work in the Canadian market. triOS College works with immigrants who are restricted with common barriers such as language, lack of access to job networks, and credentialing requirements. Herbert Langdon from the triOS Toronto campus had a high ranking position in his native country, "before coming to Canada, I worked for eight years with the League of Municipalities of the Philippines. It was very difficult however to obtain a career when I came to Canada. Currently, I am enrolled in the Network Specialist Program at triOS College to improve my chances of getting a great career in my new home."

It is only fitting that a school known for setting the pace for Canadian Education (recently awarded one of Canada's Best Managed Companies) opens its ninth location to assist the Scarborough community. At triOS they concentrate on improving curriculum, achieving sustainable growth, and finding employment for their graduates.

"For over 18 years, we have changed the lives of thousands of students by giving them the knowledge and skills to start new careers. This new campus will provide staff and students with broader opportunities and benefits that exist under the triOS name. triOS is a college that offers practical programs, great instructors, and a fantastic team that care about our students and their success," explained Stuart Bentley, President of triOS College.

The campus, located at 4438 Sheppard Ave. East, will begin assisting the Scarborough community with program start dates in May 2011. triOS' course offerings, comprised from the faculties of Business, technology, Healthcare and Law, include Accounting and Payroll, Business Administration, Community Services Worker, Medical Office Assistant, and Police Foundations. A formal grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony with city officials will take place in the near future.
