Digital Media Festival Dedicated to Art in Public Spaces

TONESTOP Media Group and Art for Commuters Launch Toronto Urban Film Festival, September 8 - 14

Attention: Arts/Entertainment Editor, Assignment Editor, City Editor, Media Editor, News Editor TORONTO, ONTARIO, PRESS RELEASE--(Marketwire - Aug. 15, 2007) - ONESTOP Media Group (OMG) and Art for Commuters (A4C) recently partnered in an effort to aid Canadian Media Artist in their on-going search for public exposure opportunities. Falling on the heals of its first festival which partnered with CONTACT in May 2007 to present "Transit Stories", A4C's second festival, entitled: "TUFF" (Toronto Urban Film Festival; Cinema by Citizens Celebrating the City - ) will air September 8 -14, 2007.

Sharon Switzer, President of Art for Commuters says, "The growth of advertising in public spaces is both a necessary means of supplemental funding, and a much debated (and oft maligned) commercial strategy. Our mandate is to enter into this debate with a proactive response that embraces these contested visual spaces as new, hybrid programming opportunities."

TUFF is open to local, national and international submissions by video artists, filmmakers, animators and urbanites with cameras or video capable mobile devices. Artists are asked to submit 1-minute silent videos addressing the following themes:

My Town
Urban Ennui
The Imaginary City

Forgotten Places, Uncommon Spaces

TUFF is programmed by a jury of notable Canadian filmmakers, video artists and curators. Selected TUFF films will run on ONESTOP's Toronto Transit Comission network for 7 days while the city is engulfed in festival fever September 8 - 14th. Each day of the festival will feature the films from a different theme.. Beginning September 8th,the public will be able to vote for their favourite film online or via text messaging. On September 14th, 'the best of' as voted on by the public, will air once every 10 minutes. First, second, third and viewer's choice awards will be given out on September 22nd at the Drake Hotel in downtown Toronto during a special awards ceremony. Prizes include: Trip for two to Jamaica, Camcorder with tripod, Wireless devices, Digital cameras, iPods, Retailer giftcards and more.
