Direct Energy Sens Fore Kids Classic raises $43,975 for charity

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 9, 2011) - The Sens Foundation is pleased to announce that $43,975 was raised at the Direct Energy Sens Fore Kids Classic, which was held Tuesday at GreyHawk Golf Club.

More than 140 golfers joined Ottawa Senators players Matt Carkner and Jesse Winchester, along with Stephane Da Costa and Chris Neil. Winnipeg Jets' defenceman Zach Bogosian, Florida Panthers' prospect Erik Gudbranson and Oklahoma City Barons (AHL) blueliner Bryan Helmer also attended this year's event.

"Supporting great events like this in our community is a priority for my teammates and I," said Carkner "We're fortunate to be able to get out and meet not only some great Senators fans but most importantly the people who receive the incredible support which is generated from events like these."

"On behalf of the Sens Foundation, I want to thank Direct Energy, ClubLink, the participants and all the volunteers for their hard work and for supporting this great event," said Sens Foundation president Danielle Robinson. "Thanks to events like this, we are able to once again make a significant contribution to organizations in our community supporting the children and youth of eastern Ontario and western Quebec."

"We are pleased to host events that provide support for the children and youth of our community," said Jonathan Bodden, ClubLink's Eastern regional sales manager. "The Sens Foundation and the Ottawa Senators are very involved in the community and we are proud to continue our longstanding relationship with them while supporting their initiatives."

With today's total, the annual event has raised almost $294,000 over the past six years for Roger's House and Ronald MacDonald House, along with Big Brothers Big Sisters Ottawa, the Capital City Condors hockey team and Boys and Girls Clubs of Cornwall.
