NEW YORK, NY and SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwire - Nov 1, 2012) - Mike Gullaksen, managing director and senior vice president of Covario, Inc., the leading independent search marketing agency, was selected by the editors of Direct Marketing News as one of the recipients of its first annual 2012 "40 under 40" awards.
Gullaksen was recognized as part of a group of "young stars" from across the marketing industry that the magazine said "has already left an indelible mark within their organization and on the industry as a whole."
According to Ginger Conlon, editor-in-chief of Direct Marketing News, the magazine's first annual 40 Under 40 awards "honor the brightest and most ambitious talented professionals in the direct and digital marketing field."
In his role as managing director at Covario, Gullaksen leads the search marketing agency's global delivery teams, which provide innovative search engine optimization (SEO), paid search, social media, and content marketing strategies both to national ecommerce retailers and to global brand marketers.
Gullaksen has more than 12 years of SEO, paid search, social media and analytics experience. He has spearheaded successful search marketing campaigns for an array of clients in different industries that market products and services to both consumers and business customers.
Since joining Covario in 2009, Gullaksen helped the firm increase its worldwide revenues by 51 percent in the first year alone. Most recently, he has played a key role leading Covario to become one of the largest independent search marketing agencies globally.
Due in large measure to his efforts, Covario was recognized by OMMA (Online Media, Marketing and Advertising) Magazine as the 2011 Search Agency of the Year. During Gullaksen's three years with the firm, Covario was also selected along with only a handful of companies for both the 2011 and the 2012 Forrester Research Waves of U.S. Search Marketing Agencies.
"Covario was originally founded six years ago as a data-driven analytics provider of SaaS-based software solutions for global enterprise SEO and paid search programs," said Russ Mann, chief executive of Covario. "Since Mike and fellow managing director Jeff Johnson came aboard, they've built Covario into one of the world's largest and most successful privately-held search marketing agencies, winning numerous awards and accolades for our clients and for the firm."
Prior to joining Covario, Gullaksen served as senior vice president of search for nine years at iCrossing in Scottsdale, Az.
"It's an honor at this relatively young stage in my career to be recognized among the nation's marketing leaders by my peers and by the editors at Direct Marketing News," Gullaksen said.
Gullaksen was recently elected to the SEMPO (Search Engine Marketing Professional Organization) Board of Directors. He has been a sought-after speaker at search marketing and digital advertising conferences nationwide. He has also provided his insights to the press surrounding the latest developments in search, social media and content marketing, including such news outlets as Bloomberg, the San Francisco Chronicle, the San Jose Mercury News, Direct Marketing News, Target Marketing and BtoB Magazine.
Gullaksen earned his Bachelor of Science degree in business from the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University.
