Disaster Capitalism Author, Naomi Klein, Talks With Filmmaker Robert Greenwald

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - November 26, 2007) - Naomi Klein, Author, "The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism" will talk to political activist and filmmaker Robert Greenwald on Thursday, December 6, 2007, at Temple Emanuel as part of TOWN HALL's ongoing series Writers Bloc.

Klein, an award-winning journalist and syndicated columnist describes her latest work as a "combination of my own reporting in Iraq, Sri Lanka after the tsunami, New Orleans after the levees broke, and Argentina after the economic collapse in 2001."

Klein refers to Hurricane Katrina as an example of "disaster capitalism" stating, "The tragedy, in part, was created by 25 years of neglect of the public sphere...the trauma was actively exploited and the fact that people had been spread all over the country and separated from their families and their roots and their communities was taken advantage of, in order to turn New Orleans into this Petri dish for ideas that live in think tanks."

Greenwald is a producer and director. He is co-founder of the publishing company RDV Books and has established Robert Greenwald Productions. He runs Brave New Films and has produced documentaries including "Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch's War on Journalism," "Wal-Mart: The High Cost on Low Price" and "Uncovered: The War on Iraq."
