Disney On Ice set to take Roger's House patients on a magical reading journey

Child from Make-A-Wish joins Rapunzel and Flynn during opening-night performance

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Feb. 14, 2012) - In conjunction with Scotiabank Place, cast members of Disney On Ice presents Treasure Trove will join forces with Roger's House and Make-A-Wish® Eastern Ontario to bring the magic of Disney to children with life-limiting illnesses in our community.

The Magic of Reading at Roger's House

On Wednesday, Feb. 15, Disney on Ice will take young patients at Roger's House on a magical reading journey. After the reading session ends, Mickey and Minnie Mouse will greet the children to donate a collection of story and activity books from Disney's animated film vault to the Roger's House library. The children and their families are also being invited to Wednesday's opening-night performance of Treasure Trove at Scotiabank Place.

Roger's House enriches the lives of children, youth and their families facing progressive, life-limiting illnesses. Located on the grounds of the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario, the eight-bed facility boasts a "home away from home" environment that allows patients to live their lives to the fullest while having access to comprehensive palliative care services.

Media are invited for the reading session and a photo opportunity as Mickey and Minnie greet patients and their families.

Who: Roger's House patients and members of their families, a member of the Disney On Ice cast and Mickey and Minnie Mouse.

What: Reading provides an opportunity for patients to escape the many trials they face daily. A Disney On Ice cast member will read one or two stories from Treasure Trove to the children before Mickey and Minnie Mouse arrive with a collection of Disney tales for the Roger's House library.

When: Wednesday, Feb. 15, at 1:30 p.m.

Where: Roger's House, 399 Smyth Rd. Media are asked to park in Lot A at CHEO.

Make-A-Wish Lantern Launch with Rapunzel and Flynn

During Wednesday's opening-night performance of Disney on Ice presents Treasure Trove, eight-year-old Victoria from Make-A-Wish® Eastern Ontario will join Rapunzel and Flynn live on stage. Victoria will help the characters from Disney's 50th animated film, Tangled, release a lantern into the night sky with hundreds of other lanterns.

Media will be permitted to obtain visuals of this segment shortly after 8:20 p.m. on Wednesday. Interested media are asked to meet at the Gate 3 concierge desk at Scotiabank Place.

The Make-A-Wish® mission is to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.

Additional details: Disney On Ice presents Treasure Trove will perform 10 shows over the course of six days, from Feb. 15 to 20 at Scotiabank Place. Treasure Trove is an action-packed ice adventure that takes audiences on a journey through their favourite stories from Disney animated features. Brave a battle against Captain Hook and his pirate pals with Peter Pan and the Lost Boys, trek across the Pride Lands with Simba, Timon and Pumbaa, and enter the whimsical world of Wonderland to witness a precision-skating number by the Queen of Hearts' Army of Cards in this extraordinary lineup from the Disney animated film vault.
