Dive & Travel Expo Offers Dive Industry the Keys to Connections

TACOMA, WA--(Marketwire - April 1, 2011) - Connections... in these hard, challenging economic times it is less and less about where you've been and more and more about where you are headed; having the right connections is the key to the lock that is steadfast on the door to a better tomorrow for everyone. It is with this in mind that the 4th annual Dive and Travel Expo, held in Tacoma April 9-10, will not only be unlocking the door to countless connections within the dive industry but they will also offer those same keys to the average guy whether he/she is a dive industry business, a diver or a vacationer.

D&TE Director Rick Stratton is excited about what his team has pulled together; 300-plus exhibit booths showcasing some of the world's leading dive industry professionals and offering everyone a chance to explore a world that not only can they afford in these tough times but also share with friends and family. "We are hearing it all over the place," Stratton says, "that people are so strapped for cash they are just giving in to the idea of no family vacation this year... we are here to show them different. The world of diving has so much to offer and we have a place where countless dive and vacation businesses are coming together to show what they can do to help."

This year's Dive and Travel Expo comes at a time when 75 percent of the families in America are putting off family vacations this year. Stratton, pained by these statistics, knew that something had to be done so he pulled together industry heavyweights like Cathy Church, a world-renowned underwater photographer with a Master's degree in marine biology who has traveled the world and knows what people look for in a family vacation destination. "People like Cathy have traveled the planet and they know what it is like to seek out that budget vacation or dive spot," Stratton says. "It is important families know what the dive industry has to offer; an education in eco-friendly vacations and how we can become better stewards of the planet while enjoying an economically feasible family vacation. What more can we, as a dive industry, give the world than the keys to being better people while striving to build stronger bonds with our families."

Need to be entertained while you are informed? Stratton's team has that covered too with a world-class Film Festival showcasing some of the film world's brightest talents with the premiere of Drop Zone Fiji, a film combining surfing and diving in the incredibly beautiful surroundings of Fiji presented by Body Glove, PADI and Sport Diver magazine. Dive industry heavy hitters like Florian Graner PHD, a marine biologist and cinematographer who will premier his newest film, Beneath the Salish Sea; Donnie Reid, Logistics & Operations Manager at Pavilion Lake Research Project for NASA and the Canadian Space Agency, who will present "The Pavilion Lake Research Project (PLRP)," an international, multi-disciplinary, science and exploration effort to explain the origin of freshwater microbialites in Pavilion Lake in nearby British Columbia; and Stuart Westmoreland, recognized as one of the leading nature, lifestyle, marine, underwater, travel, concept and general stock photographers in the United States who will share incredible images from below and above the water.

"There will be something for everyone," Stratton adds. "This is a chance for divers, dive industry leaders and the average family to make a connection that will benefit everyone along the way, economically, eco-responsibly and most important family friendly."
