Diversity Characterizes Fall Fur Collections

2007/2008 Is a Season of Choice for Fur Lovers

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - September 25, 2007) - There are over 14 natural fur types that North America calls its own and the NAFA Northern label represents the very best of them. This year, American designers began an exploration of these native North American furs that brought both diversity and unique beauty to fall runways here. The range includes mink, marten, ermine and lesser-known furs like wolverine and badger. For women (and men) looking for sustainable, natural outerwear, 2007 will be a memorable fur season indeed.

Classic in form and dignified in color, Oscar de la Renta's 2007 Fall/Winter collection was undeniably modern and incredibly elegant with standouts in fur that included a crinkly black patent leather coat with wolverine hem, a coyote vest with coyote trimmed boots, a short ermine bolero jacket, a brown and black astrakhan jacket with fisher collar, a grey cashmere cardigan with burnished muskrat trim, and a natural brown NAFA sable on the shoulders of evening gowns either as trim or a sleeveless bolero. Other fur looks included unlined coats made from bleached raccoon, a vanilla long-haired beaver coat and two light-as-air reversible Black NAFA mink coats.

Natural furs were an important part of Carolina Herrera's collection as well and they included NAFA Northern muskrat, fisher and silver fox.

Some key fur looks included a smart 'jacquard-look' black leather suit with fisher trim inside the collar, a blue mist dyed muskrat coat with light blue wool felt trim, a natural dark fisher jacket with brown wool felt trim, stoles in both fisher and dyed silver fox with knit trim, and a bleached and dyed beige muskrat jacket with horizontally worked sleeves and back closure.

Badgley Mischka unveiled a winning collection for fall with a combination of sportswear looks and traditional glamour. The furs were carefully chosen to enhance the clothing. One stand-out was a NAFA sheared white mink coat with a jeweled belt and dyed NAFA silver fox trim on the skirt and collar.

Michael Kors focused on classic American sportswear punctuated with sexy dresses and sophisticated knits. A long-time lover of fur, Mr. Kors gave his many fans plenty of mink and fox choices. One notable show stopper was a NAFA mahogany mink dress.

Other NAFA mink and NAFA marten enthusiasts included Ralph Rucci, Brian Reyes, Kevan Hall, and Vera Wang to name a few.

North American Fur Association (NAFA) is the marketing arm of North American Fur Auctions, the direct descendant of the venerable Hudson's Bay Company that was formed in 1670.
