SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - Jul 12, 2016) - DroneDeploy, the leading cloud software platform for commercial drones, and DJI, the world's leading maker of drones and camera technology, today announced at Intersolar North America 2016 that they have partnered to dramatically increase the efficiency of the solar panel installation and inspection via drone thermal imagery capture and analytics. Customers can reduce residential measurement times by up to 50% and commercial measurement times from days to minutes. In addition, drone thermal imagery will help ensure optimum placement of equipment for maximum production.
"We're excited to partner with DroneDeploy to help businesses get the most out of their DJI drones," said Ryan Tong, Director of Marketing at DJI. "Roof inspection hasn't changed significantly over the past decade. Introducing safe and accurate drone-based 3D models to replace survey wheels and measuring tapes is a step forward for the industry."
With just two taps on an iOS or Android device, customers will be able to leverage the DroneDeploy application to automatically fly a DJI drone including: take off, flight and data capture, and landing. The captured images are then processed in DroneDeploy's rapid cloud-based infrastructure, enabling:
- Accurate 3D structural models, which eliminates the need to climb on dangerous roofs.
- Precise property and structural measurements, which reduces on-site human error.
- Avoidance of hot spots with the Zenmuse XT thermal camera, which improves solar equipment production. Coming soon!
- Development of pre-flight maps, which reduces time required on-site.
- Inspection of completed installations to identify cleaning and maintenance needs.
"DJI is the largest drone hardware player in the market, and the manufacturer of choice for many of our customers," said Darr Gerscovich, Senior Vice President, Marketing of DroneDeploy. "DroneDeploy's new inspection workflow and thermal image processing capability is a really exciting development for the solar energy industry and beyond. These functionalities open up a wealth of new possibilities for businesses and government organizations looking to put drones to work."
Residential solar installations increased almost 60 percent between 2014 and 2015, and in 2015 America averaged one new residential solar installation about every 100 seconds.
