DJO Secures Worldwide Network With Fortinet

Deployment of Multi-Threat Security Solutions Enables Rapidly Growing Company to Scale While Keeping TCO Low

SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - July 7, 2008) - Fortinet® -- the pioneer and leading provider of unified threat management (UTM) solutions -- today announced that DJO Incorporated has deployed Fortinet FortiGate® multi-threat security appliances to scale its growing and distributed network as the company expects sales for 2008 to approach $1 Billion, close to doubling the actual net sales from 2007. The Fortinet solution has been deployed at DJO's sales and distribution offices located in Germany, France, Denmark, the U.K., Canada and the U.S. to help provide firewall, intrusion prevention (IPS), antivirus, virtual private network (VPN) and Web filtering protection. DJO Incorporated is a global provider of medical devices that provides solutions for musculoskeletal and vascular health and pain management.

Previously using a solution for firewall, Web filtering and antivirus protection, DJO's IT staff quickly realized that they needed a more robust network security solution that would provide easy management and high availability in case of network interruption. According to DJO, the deficiency of the previous solution was evident each time a network change needed to be made, which would cause the device to be rebooted resulting in a major network interruption.

After evaluating network security vendors, DJO selected Fortinet for three reasons: the consolidated approach to network security with multiple functionalities contained within one system, easy-to-use graphical user interface for managing the network and the ability to integrate with Microsoft's Active Directory so that access levels can be associated with different users.

Two FortiGate-500A appliances are deployed in high availability mode at DJO's California headquarters and are being used to help provide firewall, IPS, antivirus, VPN and Web filtering security. DJO's ability to add advanced network security functions to its initial firewall, antivirus, VPN and Web filtering requirements is due to Fortinet's integrated and scalable multi-threat security solution. DJO was able to easily implement IPS security functionality to its network without adding additional hardware and without exceeding its security budget.

In addition, DJO's five international offices have either a FortiGate-100A appliance or a FortiGate-60 appliance to connect the location to corporate headquarters, depending on the size of the office and amount of bandwidth traversing the network. The FortiGate integrated security platform enabled DJO to provide the same security services at their remote locations as they do at its main headquarters.

Also located at the California headquarters are the FortiManager™-400 and FortiAnalyzer-800 central management and analysis systems. FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer allow the IT staff at DJO to remotely manage all FortiGate appliances, analyze network data and create daily reports for management. Prior to the deployment of FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer, the IT staff had to manually log in to each firewall and make individual changes and did not have the ability to easily report on network usage.

"Since deploying Fortinet appliances, our IT staff has been spending significantly less time managing our network security," said John Iraci, vice president of Enterprise Infrastructure at DJO. "We can now easily make global and regional network changes from a central location rather than having to log in to each device."

DJO has quickly grown from a $200 million company to a nearly $1 Billion business with almost 5,000 employees worldwide. Being geographically distributed increases the challenges of managing and delivering secure services to branch offices and mobile workers. In addition, performance issues are common with a highly distributed network. To solve this problem, DJO deployed Riverbed Steelhead products for WAN optimization behind the FortiGate systems at each location. The combination of Fortinet and Riverbed makes the DJO network a world-class secure and application-optimized network.

"Distributed and growing networks such as DJO's require a network security solution that is easy to deploy, manage and analyze and, above all, scalable and fast," said Karl Soderlund, vice president of Americas sales and business development for Fortinet. "These requirements fit perfectly into the strengths of the FortiGate appliances, which use dedicated ASICs to accelerate a hardware platform and consolidate the critical security functions required to help protect the complete network."

Fortinet provides ASIC-accelerated security appliances, which are used by enterprises and service providers to enhance and consolidate their security needs while reducing total operating costs. Fortinet solutions were built from the ground up to integrate multiple levels of security protection -- including firewall, antivirus, intrusion prevention, VPN, Web filtering, spyware prevention and anti-spam -- designed to help customers protect against network and content level threats. Delivered via its flagship FortiGate family of appliances, Fortinet provides a flexible and extensible platform of security applications and services that enable customers to deploy and centrally manage the same comprehensive level of protection at remote locations as they have for headquarters and data center environments.
