Guinness World Records have now confirmed that DK Publishing has broken the world record for the largest image built with interlocking plastic bricks!

Over the course of three days in October 2010 in London, England, nearly 2000 members of the public assisted a team from DK Publishing in completing the world's largest LEGO mosaic.

Organized to commemorate DK's bestselling Star Wars Lego Visual Dictionary (a New York Times bestseller for 60 weeks and counting!) and the new LEGO Brickmaster Star Wars, the mosaic, designed by artist Zoltan Simon, consisted of a tableau of the most iconic characters from the Star Wars films made entirely out of interlocking bricks.

The final mosaic required 384,000 LEGO bricks and 1,500 LEGO baseplates and was measured by a qualified surveyor in the presence of officials from the Guinness World Records office. At 97.5 square metres, the mosaic is the world's largest to date.

The event also raised nearly CAD $1000 for charity and all the bricks used in the construction were donated to a London-based children's charity called Kids' Company that provide practical and educational help to inner city children.
