DNA 11 and CanvasPop's Co-founder Named IABC Ottawa 2012 Communicator of the Year

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 31, 2012) - Adrian Salamunovic, Co-Founder of DNA 11 and CanvasPop has been selected as the recipient of the prestigious Communicator of the Year Award, awarded by the International Association of Business Communicator's (IABC) Ottawa Chapter.

"The Communicator of the Year Award is ultimately about leadership," said Kerry Mortimer, President, IABC Ottawa. "Adrian stood out as both a business leader in the entrepreneurial community, but also a leader in our field for the way he and his team has employed strategic communications to drive phenomenal growth in his companies."

DNA 11, a company that creates personalized artwork from DNA, fingerprints and kiss prints, generates more than $1 million in direct sales annually as a result of its public relations efforts; accounting for nearly 20 per cent of the company's gross revenue. Started in 2009, CanvasPop produces high-quality canvas artwork with customers' digital photos from sites such as Instagram. In a time where 'monetization' seems to be to the end game, both DNA 11 and CanvasPop favour a steady approach using communications, marketing and engagement.

"Effective communication is more important than ever with so many brands competing for attention," said Salamunovic. "Fortunately, having a truly remarkable product - and a great team - helps tremendously, and throughout my career I have had both. Our communications team is born and bred here in Ottawa and we're proud to be recognized for the international reach we've been able to achieve."

Salamunovic will be recognized at the IABC Ottawa 2012 Excel Award Gala on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at The Westin Ottawa, the largest gathering of the year for Ottawa's communications, marketing and creative design community. Nearly 30 other awards will be handed out that evening to recognize a wide range of work in categories such as media relations, crisis communications, interactive media, graphic design and social media.
