Do Your Kids Think Money Grows on Trees?

New Book Helps Children Learn About Money Management

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - July 13, 2011) - Do your kids believe that money grows on trees? If they do, then a fun-filled activity book from the Toronto Star for children ages 7 to 14 will help them spend time learning BEFORE they spend your money.

The book, Do You See a Money Tree?, is designed to help children make sense of dollars and cents. It's challenging, but not taxing. It's written with young children in mind and is interactive and fun.

Saving, spending, investing and managing money is one of the most critical areas for children to learn, according to the Ontario Ministry of Education. It's so important that, beginning this September, the ministry will be introducing classroom programs starting in grade 4 and running all the way to grade 12 to help students develop the money-management skills needed to succeed in today's increasingly complex financial world.

"For years, I have firmly believed that learning about money management benefits everyone. That's especially true for children," writes Ellen Roseman, the Star's personal finance and columnist, in her introduction in the book.

Included in the book are lessons that help children learn how to develop a budget, understand the difference between needs and wants and shows them both how to earn money and how to make it last.

The book, which costs $9.44 (taxes included) plus shipping, can be ordered at www.starstore.ca/moneytree or by mailing Toronto Star, Consumer Marketing, 4th Floor, One Yonge Street, Toronto, Ontario M5E 1E6.
