VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - May 21, 2014) - Today a coalition of doctors, patients and health care advocates won the BC Supreme Court's approval to bring expert evidence before the judge in the constitutional challenge to Canadian public health care brought by Dr. Brian Day.
The coalition opposing Day includes, among others, a patient living with Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy who could not afford and would not qualify for private health insurance under a US-style system, as well as a group of Canadian doctors who are concerned that Brian Day's case would lengthen wait times for patients and erase the fundamental Canadian principle of universal access to quality health care.
A member of the intervening group, Dr. Rupinder Brar will be available to comment outside the courthouse at 1:00 today.
What: News conference
When: 1:00, Wednesday, May 21, 2014
Where: BC Supreme Court building, 800 Smithe Street, Vancouver, B.C.
