Document Imaging Developers Conference Focuses on Extending eCopy Software Platform to a Wide Range of Business Applications

NASHUA, NH--(Marketwire - June 24, 2008) - Top software developers gathered to learn about the latest software tools and best practice techniques for adding document imaging to business applications.

The eCopy™ Developers Summit -- called Acceleration 2008 -- took place this week and brought together independent software vendors, systems integrators and office equipment dealers. It provided a "first look" of the product roadmap for the eCopy ShareScan® Software Development Kit (SDK), a toolset for developing application connectors and document services that integrate document scanning and distribution capabilities from multifunction printers (MFPs) and scanners with software applications.

"Our customers commonly express the need for paper documents, such as invoices, to drive their automated processes," said Dave Marcus, vice president, Alliances and Business Development at K2. "eCopy provides a standard document scanning platform, which allows K2 to build one integration point that works across multiple MFP brands -- saving development and support resources. This gives our customers the flexibility they need with a combination of K2 and eCopy to support their process application needs."

The new eCopy ShareScan SDK will further the adoption of an industry-standard document capture environment. It will include an easy-to-use Connector Wizard for Microsoft's Visual Studio, support for universal forms creation and the ability to localize applications easily using Microsoft's language glossary.

There are more than 200 application developers using the eCopy software platform to connect applications to scanning devices via eCopy ShareScan. The eCopy developer program has more members than all the MFP vendor developer programs combined. The resulting application connectors help organizations move toward a paperless office by integrating paper into electronic business processes.

"The eCopy ShareScan Connector SDK made it easy for us to develop real-time integration between document imaging and DocuWare," said Greg Schloemer, president at DocuWare Corporation. "No other vendor matches eCopy's experience in this area and the strong support they provided helped us immeasurably in the development and testing process."

Another hot discussion topic at the conference was the emerging opportunity for automating paper-based business processes. This new scanning category, business process automation, implements the sophisticated functionality of production scanning with the user intuitiveness from ad hoc scanning. The eCopy Document Services SDK enables developers to integrate their capabilities, directly into eCopy ShareScan. Document services software provides capabilities required for business process automation including image enhancement, data extraction and document classification.

"I.R.I.S. and eCopy extended their existing relationship to bring advanced imaging capabilities that are typically associated with production scanning operations out of the back office and make them available to front office workers," said Dr. Pierre De Muelenaere, president & CEO of I.R.I.S. "This approach fits well with eCopy's long history of delivering sophisticated document imaging software that can be used by any office worker."
