Doerksen Says Focus to Stay on Issues

Attention: Assignment Editor, Media Editor, News Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor RED DEER, ALBERTA--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 27, 2006) - Victor Doerksen today announced that he will remain focused on the issues which created his desire to run in the leadership race and will not back any particular leadership candidate for the Dec. 2 vote.

"I want to first thank my family, my campaign team, and my supporters for their encouragement and efforts on my behalf."

"My approach to the leadership race was to offer a vision for Alberta that focused on issues beyond tomorrow and a plan to move in that direction," Doerksen said. "I brought a different perspective to the issues and moved some significant agenda items into the debate which I wish to continue to focus on."

During the campaign, Doerksen championed the issue of securing and protecting Alberta's fresh water, an issue of vital importance to the future of the province and one that needs strong policy direction and long term thinking.

He talked about the importance of fiscal discipline and building a fiscal plan with a legislated framework that accounts specifically for resource revenues.

His August entry into the race also marked a beginning of the discussion on making a membership in the PC Party meaningful and offered concrete ideas about how to involve party members in policy development.

He also emphasized the government's role in supporting Alberta's parents and encouraging Albertans to think in a global context.

Doerksen said while he will continue to bring focus to these issues he will fully support whomever Alberta PC members elect as the next leader of the Party.

"I pledge my support to the PC Party and the next leader and will contribute in whatever capacity the new leader deems appropriate. I also want to say I am honored to represent the people of Red Deer South and will continue to work my utmost on their behalf."
