Dominic Besner Celebrates his 15 Years as an Artist and Takes his Work Abroad

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Oct. 4, 2010) - Dominic Besner, represented by Galerie MX in Montreal, will participate in "Art of Giving," taking place October 7-9, 2010, at the Saatchi Gallery in London.

The Saatchi Gallery will be the meeting place for a number of artists whose works will be auctioned off for the benefit of several charitable organizations, including ONE DROP, an initiative by Guy Laliberté aimed at fighting poverty around the world by providing access to clean water and sensitizing the public around issues related to water access. This exhibit will also include the participation of artists such as Paul Belliveau, Zak Ové and Gavin Turk. Mr. Besner will have four works on display.

"I am not exaggerating when I say that Besner possesses all the indispensible qualities a painter requires, with many to spare. I have always been fascinated by his capacity to create moods that are evocative and mysterious, compelling me as an observer to dive into a world where the ambivalence of beauty reigns. What talent! What mastery of gesture and eye! I find in him that rare instinct, that disposition that resides only in the most talented – that capacity to create a rich and intense world with talent, while at the same time revealing with sensitivity the depth of emotion within, without compromise." Mr. Claude Le Sauteur.

A press conference presided over by Dominic Besner and Martin Bundock, Senior Advisor arts integration for Le Cirque du Soleil, will take place next Tuesday, October 5th, 9am at Galerie MX in order to present the project.

"ONE DROP is pleased to be able to rely on the creative talent of two prodigious artists to share its mission and take one step closer towards a world where every human being has access to water and can live in health and dignity," says Lili-Anna Pereša, Director General of ONE DROP.

Press Conference: Tuesday, October 5th, 2010, from 9-11am at Galerie MX

333 avenue Viger Ouest, Montreal, (514) 315-8900

Dominic Besner will also be the guest of the Can Art Gallery in Peking, where 26 of his canvases will be on display from November 5-21, 2010. As part of the festivities surrounding the 40th anniversary of Canada's diplomatic relations with China, the exhibit entitled Hundred Worlds – Made for China, will be the very first time a Canadian artist displays their work solo on Chinese soil.

"This exhibit is a journey into the soul. It is a narrative comprised of many human voices, told through the hand of a painter, through his assumptions. He questions. Are words perpetual murmurs? In his quest, he looks to understand the man that walks beyond the blue, to the distant horizon where the pinnacle of his dreams resides. And it is in this moment that he finds what he seeks. He who looks… The observer in turn will tell his story. But today, he has only Hundred Words with which to do it. We are the painter's raft." – Dominic Besner

In addition, the renowned Galerie MX will host celebrations surrounding the 15-year career of Dominic Besner. These festivities are slated to begin in November 2010. Fifteen works – a small nod to China, for 15 years of an exceptional career. These fifteen will be specially chosen by the artist and reproduced as giclées, along with almost a dozen more recent original works, to be available for purchase until November 21st, 2010.

To launch the festivities, a VIP evening will take place in the company of the artist on Friday, November 12th, 2010 at Galerie MX.

Media Event: Friday, November 12th, 2010, from 5-8pm at Galerie MX

Eight of his canvases will be on display at the chic Peking Fairmount Hotel from September 20th to November 4th, 2010. He will take part in the "Western China International Art Biennial" in Yinchuan from September 17th to October 25th, 2010, where two of his works will be presented. Mr. Besner will also take part in "Expo 2010 Shanghai" where one of his canvases, acquired by the Cirque du Soleil and exclusively picked by Mr. Laliberté, will be on display at the Canada Pavilion.

About Dominic Besner

Originally from North Lancaster, Ontario, Mr. Besner has a Diploma from l'École d'Architecture de l'Université de Montréal. His education in architecture has had a strong influence on his art. His works speak of his environment, crossing lines and colours to create dynamics that are both simple and complex. Whether human, animal or architectural, his subject is the malleable result of a dynamic cross between figure and space. The critical eye he turns on his art allows him to evolve over time, always in search of new colours, new forms that are the tangible expression of an urban force.
