Dominican Republic Growers Expand Use of Purshade Solar Protectant

Advanced Solar Protection Helps Growers Increase Yields, Reduce Labor Costs and Increase Water Use Efficiency in Crops

SANTA DOMINGO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC and FREMONT, CA--(Marketwire - May 9, 2011) - Agroasa, a business dedicated to providing products and solutions to optimize the production and quality of agriculture crops, today announced that use of Purshade® solar crop protection is spreading throughout the Dominican Republic as growers consistently experience significant increases in yield, reduced labor costs, and increases in water use efficiency in their crops. Purshade, a family of unique products scientifically engineered to provide solar stress protection for fruits, vegetables and other crops , is now being used on multiple crops in the Dominican Republic including peppers, tomatoes, avocados, mangos, pineapples, and bananas and adoption of the product continues to expand.

"With the protection of Purshade, growers have experienced increases in biomass production and improvements in crop quality characteristics, including size, color, and weight, resulting in higher-quality and higher-value crops," said Mr. Abel Lopez, manager of Agroasa. "As a supplier of crop protection products, we are pleased to offer Purshade conventional and organic solutions to our growers to help them maintain the high quality of crops grown in the Dominican Republic."

Depending on the crop, region, and the seasonal climate, growers can lose up to 50% of a crop by the harmful effects of the sun. Based on Advanced Reflectance Technology™ (ART™), Purshade reflects harmful wavelengths of solar radiation such as ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR), while allowing transmission of sufficient sunlight for photosynthesis. Laboratory results show Purshade reflects as much as 85-95 percent of harmful UV radiation, and has been shown to keep plant surfaces 3-6 degrees Celsius cooler than untreated plants.

"With Purshade, we have experienced a 90 percent reduction in solar damage," said Mr. Peter Urena, vice president of Buena Tierra, a commercial grower of pineapples. "We are in our second season of using Purshade on pineapples, and in addition to the UV and IR protection, the coverage and ease of use of the product have permitted us to eliminate the labor intensive process of covering each fruit in the field, allowing us to utilize our time more effectively."

"Agroasa is a well respected company focused on delivering innovative and high-quality products to their customers," said Mr. Tom Justmann, general manager, plant health group for Purfresh, Inc. "We are honored to partner with Agroasa to market our Purshade line of products to growers in the Dominican Republic."

The Purshade family of products includes a formulation for use on conventional crops as well as a formulation that is approved for organic production by the Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) of the United States of America and the Institute for Marketecology (IMO). The liquid formulations are easy to mix, can be applied with standard spray equipment, and provide for easy wash off.
