Donald I. Bierman, Legendary Criminal Defense Attorney, Joins Waserstein Nunez & Foodman Law

After graduating cum laude from the University of Miami in 1965, Donald Bierman began his leadership in the legal field. He is well respected among his peers, his clients and his community. He began his career with the United States Department of Justice as a part of the Appellate team of the Criminal Division, as well as a Staff Attorney on the President's Commission on Crime. From there, as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, he was lead counsel in many important prosecutions. He has tried over 120 jury trials to verdict, primarily in federal courts throughout the United States. He also appears in State Courts in Florida. His defense work has included the successful representation of the Director of the Port of Miami in the Port of Miami Corruption case that captured the news and the nation in 1999, as well as representation of many well known entertainers such as Jim Morrison and Wesley Snipes.

On March 23, 2010 the Attorneys Division of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation will honor him with the Honorable Theodore "Ted" Klein Special Recognition Award. He was selected as the Best Immigration Lawyer in Dade County in a Miami News Series as a result of his immigration practice when he served as the lead counsel for the Haitian refugees seeking political asylum in the United States. Donald Bierman began his Haitian work in 1973, long before the current earthquake devastated the Country, when he was retained by the National Council of Churches to represent the interests of the Haitian refugees. Many years later he was also appointed Special Master by United States District Judge C. Clyde Atkins in the Haitian Litigation to preside over the proceedings at Guantanamo Bay.
