Donation to The Royal Canadian Legion Dominion Command from Proceeds of WWII Veterans Book, Honour

MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 4, 2011) - Chartwell Seniors Housing recently presented a cheque to The Royal Canadian Legion Dominion Command from the proceeds of HONOUR, a book released in 2010 profiling 35 Second World War veterans who live in a Chartwell retirement residence. Sharon Henderson, Vice President of Communication and Public Affairs, presented the cheque on behalf of Chartwell Seniors Housing to Patricia Varga, President of Dominion Command.

Inspired by the 2010 death of Canada's last WWI veteran in January, and in tribute to the 65th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, Chartwell Seniors Housing published, HONOUR to commemorate Canada's WWII veterans and those who supported the war effort. Featuring photos by renowned Canadian photographer Yuri Dojc, and accompanied by interviews with the veterans written by Mrs. Henderson, the book offers a reflective telling of their war experiences from a deeply personal perspective.

A special video documentary of the interviews, HONOUR: Their Stories, Our History will be released by Chartwell during Remembrance Week 2011. Special viewings as well as copies for schools and community groups will be available from Chartwell retirement homes in the Ottawa region in early November. Locations can be found at www.chartwellreit.ca

Copies of the book HONOUR are available through HonourOutVeterans.ca and Chartwell homes across Canada. Net proceeds of this book are being donated to Canadian organizations committed to the remembrance of Canada's veterans including The War Amps Operation Legacy and The Royal Canadian Legion.

In November 2011, Chartwell will release a documentary entitled HONOUR: Their Stories, Our History chronicling the making of the book. Featuring taped footage with the veterans themselves, the documentary carries a timely message for all Canadians about the ordinary but important stories of these individuals and how close we are to losing this history.

Chartwell owns and operates retirement homes and long-term care homes across Canada including Bridlewood, New Edinburgh Square, Rideau Place, Empress Kanata and Chartwell Kanata in the Ottawa Region.
