DonorNation and La Jolla Playhouse Team Up to Support Education and the Arts

A Unique, Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration Benefiting the San Diego Community

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwired - Aug 26, 2013) - A San Diego-based start-up technology company benefiting education, DonorNation, is collaborating with the nationally-renowned not-for-profit theatre, La Jolla Playhouse, to positively impact education, the community and the arts. This ongoing collaboration includes several creative projects that leverage the highest quality art and influence in the community from La Jolla Playhouse with the power of the DonorNation platform to funnel significant donations to local San Diego schools.

"Our collaboration with La Jolla Playhouse not only benefits education, but also the community," said Karim Pirani founder and CEO of DonorNation. "It's mutually beneficial in that they support our mission to rally community around improving education, and we support their cause to enrich the culture of San Diego through exciting and adventurous theatre."

As lead sponsor of La Jolla Playhouse's upcoming Without Walls Festival (WoW) October 3-6, DonorNation will be partnering on programming throughout the festival, particularly during Family Day on Saturday, October 5. The WoW Festival will showcase artists and events occurring simultaneously in and around the Playhouse Theatre District, presented by the Playhouse as well as partner institutions UC San Diego (UCSD), the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) and the New Children's Museum.

"This one-of-a-kind partnership highlights both DonorNation and the Playhouse's commitment to strengthening the fabric of the San Diego community through education and the arts," said La Jolla Playhouse Managing Director Michael Rosenberg. "This rewarding collaboration will have a positive impact in our schools while introducing new people to the work on our stages -- it just makes sense."

The partnership kicked off in early 2013 with DonorNation's inaugural School Volunteer of the Year Awards, which culminated in June with the Awards Ceremony, co-hosted by La Jolla Playhouse managing director, Michael Rosenberg. La Jolla Playhouse co-sponsored the Awards by donating one-year subscriptions to its 2013/2014 season as well as either tickets to a student matinee performance at the Playhouse or an in-school performances of the Playhouse's 2014 POP Tour, a touring theatre production for young audiences, for the three finalists and honorable mentions.

Following the success of the Awards, DonorNation and La Jolla Playhouse expanded their collaboration by agreeing to sell a pair of tickets for every performance in La Jolla Playhouse's current 2013/2014 season on DonorNation's website for half price with 100 percent of the proceeds donated to a school of the buyer's choice. Tickets are still available at www.donornation.org.
