Don't Let Lighter Nights Lead You Astray Warns Swinton

MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - March 27, 2011) - Swinton is warning motorists to be wary of driving over the legal alcohol limit now that lighter nights are seeing a deluge of people spending their evenings in beer gardens.

The UK's largest high street retailer of cheap car insurance issued the warning as winter comes to an end and Spring sees warmer nights bringing an increase in people socialising after work.

If a motorist is caught drink driving they will have conviction code DR10 (driving or attempting to drive while unfit through drink) on their licence and could get up 11 points. A hefty fine may also be imposed and the motorist can expect a large increase on future car insurance premiums.

Steve Chelton, Insurance Development Manager at Swinton said, "Now that Spring is here, nights are getting lighter and warmer and people are much more likely to go and meet their friends in a beer garden after work. Drink driving is a very serious crime that endangers the life of the driver, other road users and pedestrians. It also carries the real possibility of a jail term, a hefty fine, points on your licence and a massive increase in future car insurance premiums. If you fancy a drink in the sunshine then please leave the car at home."
