DON'T LISTEN TO THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE OFL TELLS PREMIER

Attention: Assignment Editor, City Editor, Media Editor, News Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor TORONTO--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 20, 2005) - "Don't listen to advice from the Ontario Chamber of Commerce," said Ontario Federation of Labour president Wayne Samuelson, after a ruling yesterday by an Ontario Divisional Court upheld a labour arbitration and ordered a nursing home in Guelph to pay the Ontario Health premium on behalf of its 70 unionized employees.

Responding to reporters queries at the Ontario Economic Summit in Niagara-on-the-Lake the Ontario Chamber of Commerce president Len Crispino commented that the provincial government should open up the legislation to ensure that employees pay the tax and not Ontario's employers.

"Nothing can justify opening up collective agreements," said Samuelson. "My advice to Dalton McGuinty is - don't listen to the Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber is all for tax cuts when it comes to businesses but is strongly opposed when it's working people that don't have to pay."
