"Don't miss the boat to China" says business seminar

Over 300 representatives of Canadian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) gathered at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre today (October 20, 2005) for a business seminar on Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta. High on the agenda were discussions on ways for Canadian companies to do business in China.

The seminar, "Hong Kong-Dongguan: Your Partners for Success in China", was co-organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Invest Hong Kong, Dongguan Municipal People's Government and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office. The major objective of this event was to encourage and assist Canadian companies to partner with Hong Kong and Dongguan companies to explore business opportunities in China. The seminar was supported by the APF of Canada, I.E.Canada, Canadian Chamber of Commerce, EDC, the Hong Kong-Canada Business Association and Ontario Exports Inc.

Speakers from Hong Kong and Dongguan shared their market knowledge, advice and success stories with the attendees.

Steve Alexander, Deputy Director of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, recommended that Canadian companies leverage on Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta as their best entry point to do China business. Zhang Shun-Guang, Vice Mayor of Dongguan Municipal People's Government, introduced Dongguan's advantages to help Canadian companies capture business opportunities in China. Mike Rowse, Director-General of Invest Hong Kong, focused on Hong Kong as the springboard for Canadian companies looking at China business opportunities.
