Dorel Juvenile Group Chooses Infobright's Analytic Database to Turbo-Charge Business Intelligence Effort

Solution Enables Car Seat Manufacturer to Slash Query Response Times and Significantly Reduce Data Administration Requirements

TORONTO--(Marketwire - November 9, 2010) -  Infobright, the open source analytic database company, today announced that Dorel Juvenile Group (DJG) has selected Infobright® Enterprise Edition (IEE) to reduce the time, cost and administration involved in delivering business analytics to end-users throughout its organization. With the IEE analytic database, Dorel is able to rapidly load millions of rows of corporate data into its business intelligence software and turn around queries that used to take up to 24 hours in only a few minutes.

Dorel Juvenile Group is a division of Dorel Industries (TSX: DII.B) (TSX: DII.A), the largest manufacturer of children's car seats globally and first to introduce a side impact car seat. The company's portfolio of brands includes Cosco®, Safety 1st®, Eddie Bauer® and Maxi-Cosi®. Delivering market-leading innovation demands up-to-the minute intelligence related to sales, financials and manufacturing quality, but as Dorel Juvenile Group's business has grown, so has the volume of corporate data requiring analysis. The company selected IEE to improve analytic response times, bring new streams of data into the mix and optimize use of its existing business intelligence software.

"We had a BI solution in place, but our users were not taking advantage of it due to poor response times using our SQL Server database," said Jon Finerfrock, Manager of Business Intelligence at Dorel Juvenile Group. "Furthermore, the BI team -- which consisted of myself and one other employee -- was spending at least 50 percent of our time manually loading, integrating, and preparing data for analysis. We were able to slash query response times and enable users to run ad-hoc queries with IEE, as the solution doesn't need indexes or tuning for high performance. As a result, the finance analysts who had been crunching their own numbers using Excel and other isolated tools came back to use the new BI system."

IEE delivers the high performance needed for fast analysis on large data volumes without the need to create indexes or projections, partition data, or do any manual tuning for both static and ad-hoc queries. Queries that previously took as long as 24 hours to run using SQL Server run in just minutes with IEE. Using IEE with Talend's open source ETL software gives DJG the ability to quickly load and integrate millions of rows of data from a number of different systems, including its general financial ledger, without extensive administration. The company is also planning to bring operational data from its ERP system into IEE, so that predictive analytics can be run on information from Dorel's manufacturing facility in Columbus, Indiana.

"In these tough economic times, organizations need simple and affordable solutions that help them efficiently capitalize on their corporate data," said Don DeLoach, President and CEO of Infobright. "IEE is enabling DJG's BI team to respond quickly to end-user analytic demands while actually reducing the administrative time involved in doing so. The end result is faster organizational access to critical business intelligence, lower data management costs and more innovative analytic capabilities -- a win for everyone involved."
