Downloadable Books Now Available From Metropolitan Library System Website

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK -- (MARKET WIRE) -- February 13, 2007 -- You're packing to leave town for a few days on a business trip, a holiday with your parents, or your annual vacation. You're running out of room, and you still have to pack your laptop and those books you've been meaning to read. The Metropolitan Library System's new eMedia service, with technology provided by OverDrive, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio, allows you to download audio books without the possibility of losing them or having to pay overdue fines.

"It seems like there is so much technology around us, we can't take advantage of it all," said MLS Executive Director Donna Morris. "But downloadable eMedia books are right there whenever you want them."

Customers with a valid MLS library card can browse the virtual library shelves via the online catalog, select titles, and then follow the simple instructions for downloading. If the book is not currently available, it can be placed on "reserve" and an email notification is sent when it is available for check out and some titles are available for unlimited simultaneous checkouts.

Digital audio books can be downloaded to a Windows PC, laptop, or a Pocket PC and then transferred to supported WMA/MP3 players. These books are not currently iPod compatible. Some audio books can even be burned to CD to listen in the car or on portable CD players. After 14 days, the book is automatically returned to the collection.

"The great thing," Morris concluded, "is that we have books by favorite writers like Sue Grafton, Michael Connelly, Jonathan Kellerman, Nora Roberts, Janet Evanovich, and James Patterson. We've also taken away any reason you have for not at least trying to read 'War and Peace.'"

The Metropolitan Library System of Oklahoma County includes 12 libraries and five extension libraries. Libraries include Belle Isle, Capitol Hill, Ralph Ellison, Ronald J. Norick Downtown Library and Southern Oaks in Oklahoma City, as well as Bethany, Choctaw, Del City, Edmond, Midwest City, Village and Warr Acres.
