Downsview Park Celebrates Recreation and Parks Month With Free Activities

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 9, 2008) - Kick off your high heels, shed the neck tie and energize yourself as Parc Downsview Park Inc. (PDP) leaps into summer and celebrates June as Recreation and Parks month with three free lunch-hour activities for all to enjoy.

Downsview Park's yoga, kickboxing and nature walk in the park offers an exciting way to increase awareness of the value and important benefits of recreation.

"As a national urban park in the heart of the Greater Toronto Area, we encourage all Canadians to celebrate this land and experience the Park's year-round roster of events and sport, recreational and pastoral amenities."

"Live it everyday," is the theme of Recreation and Parks Month, a program of the Ontario Parks Association. It's a celebration of the successful contribution of parks to recreation and people's quality of life. PDP is pleased to participate and welcomes everyone to experience the following activities:

Yoga in the Park. June 11th - 12 pm to 1 pm. Relax, unwind and de-stress your body, mind and spirit with an hour of yoga in the park. Yoga combines breath and movement to improve posture, flexibility, strength and peace of mind. The class is presented by Nancy Anjali Weiser, certified Yoga instructor, Heart & Soul Yoga. Location: Downsview Park, Discovery Centre, 1-35 Carl Hall Rd, Toronto.

Kickboxing in the Park. June 17th - 12 pm to 1 pm. Kick, punch and work your core while you burn away your calories to great music at Downsview Park's kickboxing class. Modifications will be offered to ensure all ages and levels can participate. The class is taught by a trained Turbo Kick instructor. Location: The Hangar, 75 Carl Hall Rd, Toronto.

Nature Walk in the Park. June 25th - 12 pm to 1 pm. Stroll through the Downsview Park's Canada Forest and discover native wildlife and discuss the connection between urban forestry, health, and sustainability. Location: Downsview Park, Discovery Centre, 35 Carl Hall Rd, Toronto.

Everyone is encouraged to participate and no previous experience is required. All participants are asked to wear appropriate attire and bring a towel and sunscreen.
