Downsview Park's 6th Annual Fall Fair Celebrates Community Stewardship With Public Tree Planting in the Canada Forest

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 11, 2006) - Downsview Park's 6th Annual Fall Fair will be held on Sunday October 15, 2006 from 11 am to 4:00 pm in the newly created permanent event space at 35 Carl Hall Rd in Downsview Park.

The event, which is free and open to the public, is a celebration of the fall harvest featuring a variety of country-themed family focused entertainment-live performances from country superstar Marc Ekins' Band, the West Coast Lumberjack Show, Doug Barr and the Big Boy Band and the spectacular Birds of Prey Flight Show, face painting, a petting zoo, Kids Sport Fun Zone and other activities for children.

The fair also features an urban tree planting event 'Make Your Mark in Downsview Park' in which individual members of the public, families, businesses, corporations and community organizations are invited to plant a tree in Downsview Park's Canada Forest as part of a community stewardship program designed to engage citizens across the GTA in the development of the park and in promoting the values of sustainability, stewardship, legacy beauty and play-the core values of the park.

"The fall celebration is traditionally a time to celebrate the bounty of the harvest," says Tony Genco. "It provides a perfect opportunity for us to reflect on ways to create a world in which we manage the resources of nature to ensure that people everywhere have access to healthy trees and greenspaces, clean air, enough food and water, shelter, education and recreation and that access to this bounty is preserved for future generations. Downsview Park, through such initiatives as the development of the Canada Forest and many other amenities in the park, aims to be a Canadian model of prosperity for all."

The event also features a contest-grand prize $1000 in cash-open to both online entrants and members of the public who complete a ballot at the PDP Information booth on the day of the event. Details are available at www.pdp.ca.

Following the recent successful launch of the world's only full-scale replica of the Avro Arrow at Downsview Park's Toronto Aerospace Museum, the Fall Fair is one of four seasonal festivals (the winter festival scheduled for January 13, 2007, Springfest and Canada Day are the others) combined with an exciting roster of community based celebrations which help to make Downsview Park a choice destination for families year round.

Downsview Park is also the home of the Hangar Sports Complex which welcomes some 400, 000 visits per year to its four state-of-the-art indoor soccer fields, Olympic calibre indoor beach volleyball courts and facilities for corporate and family parties, tradeshows and gala celebrations.
