TYLER, TX--(Marketwired - July 11, 2016) - Join us again for the annual Downtown Tyler Film Festival September 21-24, 2016 hosted at Liberty Hall located in Downtown Tyler. This marks the sixth year the art and industry of independent filmmaking has taken center stage in Tyler, Texas.

"Our film festival had very humble beginnings and has grown into an international event, attracting films from Tyler, throughout Texas, across the U.S., and around the world," said Beverly Abell, City of Tyler Main Street department leader.

Different categories of film will be shown each night including short films, young filmmaker short films, and a special East Texas short films category.

In addition to screening the films, this year attendees will be able to participate in a couple of workshops Saturday, September 24, 2016. The workshops that will be offered are "Screenwriting & Storyboarding" and "Making Movies on a Shoestring Budget."

The workshops will take place at the Tyler Public Library and will be instructed by David Broom. They are free and open to the public, but tips for the instructor are encouraged.

Also, new to the event this year is a "Toast to Downtown." Each evening during the festival various restaurants and bars in Downtown will host a special happy hour just for festival attendees. A list of participating locations will be released closer to the festival dates.
