President Dr. Abdul Kalam to Deliver a Speech on India's Prospects for a Knowledge Economy

SANTA CLARA, CA--(Marketwire - September 17, 2007) - The Indian Institute of Science Alumni Association of North America (IISc AANA) announced today that former President of India, Dr. Abdul Kalam, will visit Silicon Valley and deliver a speech on India's prospects for a Knowledge Economy including Research, Education and Entrepreneurship. The event is being hosted by IISc AANA and co-hosted by PanIIT, TiE Silicon Valley and ICC, and will be held at India Community Center (ICC) in Milpitas, CA on Tuesday 18 September from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm.

Dr. Kalam is the undisputed father of India's missile program, an eminent scientist, a poet and a visionary for India. He holds the unique honor of receiving honorary doctorates from 30 universities and institutions from all over the world. Also known as the "People's President," Dr. Kalam's dedication to the betterment of the common man earned him enduring respect in India and abroad. He holds the position of Visitor to the Indian Institute of Science, the premier graduate research institute in the country, ranked amongst the top institutions of its kind worldwide. Dr. Kalam conducted his early research at the Institute, and this personal visit follows his inspiring address to the IISc Global Conference 22-24 June, 2007, in Santa Clara, CA.

Established in Bangalore in 1909 with a generous endowment from J N Tata, the great industrialist of India, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has been the architect of India's science and technology infrastructure and a powerful engine for its booming economy.

Dr. Kalam's speech will focus on ways in which he can help marshal and channel Indo-American efforts and capability, to further Indian aspirations and Indo-US collaborations, particularly in research, education, entrepreneurship and rural development in India. His mission is to transform India into a developed nation by 2020.
