Dr. Donald Waldrep Tapped to Participate in International Forum in Paris, France

THOUSAND OAKS, CA--(Marketwire - August 24, 2009) - Bariatric surgeon, Donald Waldrep, MD, FACS, of Southern California Advanced Laparo-Endoscopic Surgery, is one of six surgeons in the United States selected to participate in a conference with international counterparts in Paris, France on August 28. The forum, sponsored by Ethicon Endo Surgery Inc., is a gathering of global weight loss surgery experts who will discuss the role of prevention and surgical treatments for obesity.

"This is an exciting time of initiative, innovation, and growth in weight wellness procedures," said Dr. Waldrep. "We have a chance to look at effective, minimally invasive procedures, some that are currently available, as preventive, instead of reactive. One goal is to make these therapies as accessible as possible to the people who need them."

Dr. Waldrep's clinic provides laparoscopic surgeries, including gastric bypass and gastric banding procedures, to patients and oversees a team of that specifically focuses on each patient's well-being and long-term recovery.

According to Dr. Waldrep, weight loss procedures should be viewed as tools that allow the patient to promote a sense of wellness. He recommends that those looking to undergo weight loss surgery should be well-informed and should carefully consider the risks and benefits of the surgery and to know what to expect after the surgery. "While we don't want people to over-idealize surgery, they shouldn't underestimate its impact, either; it is the key to cure for so many medical problems," said Dr. Waldrep.

The conference, coordinated with the start of the annual meeting of the International Society for the Surgery of Obesity, will also review advanced techniques and trends noted from leaders in bariatric surgery. "It's an honor to be invited. I'm looking forward to this conference in which we'll be sharing our knowledge and expertise," said Dr. Waldrep. "It's always a win-win for patients and surgeons alike when we can create more effective pathways by sharing our personal professional experiences."
