Dr. Harlan A. Levine to Serve as External Strategic Advisor for Quantum Health

COLUMBUS, OH--(Marketwired - Apr 15, 2013) - Quantum Health is pleased to announce that Harlan A. Levine, M.D., is serving as an external strategic advisor to the company's Executive Team. In this role, Dr. Levine will provide counsel on strategy, anticipating and meeting market demands, and quality and outcome management. He previously served as the Executive Vice President at WellPoint, Inc., and recently became the Chief Executive for City of Hope Medical Foundation.

"As a practicing physician, medical director at several large insurance companies, and prior head of the healthcare strategy practice at Towers Watson, Harlan has advised patients, national carriers, and major employers, and learned what's important to each in their shared struggle to make healthcare affordable," said Kara J. Trott, Chief Executive Officer of Quantum Health. "He has a unique perspective that will greatly enhance Quantum Health's understanding of each of those segments as we continue to evolve our strategy and future product roadmap."

Dr. Levine has more than fifteen years of experience providing clinical health management, consultative services, and program implementation support to businesses and organizations of all sizes, across a broad range of industries. His health management expertise includes medical management, disease management, wellness, and health promotion. In addition, Dr. Levine has a proven record of success in driving payment innovation and transparency efforts, and in helping achieve greater engagement of individuals and physicians in health-improvement initiatives.

"Quantum Health is a rare company doing something that no one else has yet recognized. They approach healthcare coordination from an understanding of natural consumer behavior, and then leverage those natural behaviors to help members consume healthcare more wisely," said Dr. Levine. "I applaud Quantum Health's innovative approach and find their culture inspiring -- so much so, that I jumped at the opportunity to engage with Quantum Health's leadership and advise on its future."

In his role with City of Hope, Dr. Levine leads a multi-site medical foundation employing 170 physicians and other health professionals, delivering cancer treatment through more than 23,000 visits each year. As Executive Vice President for WellPoint, Dr. Levine oversaw provider engagement, case and disease management, imaging management, pharmacy management, the HealthCore research subsidiary, and CareMore, the recently-acquired WellPoint subsidiary that focuses on innovative healthcare approaches for seniors and those with chronic conditions.

Prior to WellPoint, Dr. Levine worked for Towers Watson's health management business as National Practice Leader. In this role, he re-organized the intellectual assets of the practice to align with the needs of a post-healthcare-reform market and guided the development of the company's strategies for price transparency initiatives, provider contracting, and supporting hospital clients to pursue Accountable Care Organizations.

Dr. Levine has worked for several national healthcare organizations in a variety of leadership roles, including as Chief Medical Officer of UnitedHealth Group's OptumHealth Care Solutions from 2002 to 2008. Prior to OptumHealth, he served as CEO of a disease management and healthcare technology subsidiary for a global pharmaceutical company, served as a regional medical director at PacifiCare Health Systems, and as Executive Vice President at Adesso Healthcare Technology Services and Salick Health Care.

Dr. Levine has been an advisor to health policy groups such as the nonpartisan, Washington D.C.-based Hope Street Group, supporting its project dedicated to reinventing primary care. In addition, he served for six years on the board of directors of the Disease Management Association of America and co-chaired the American Health Insurance Plan's Cardio-Metabolic Risk Reduction Sub-Committee. In September 2008, Managed Healthcare Executive named Dr. Levine one of the nation's "Top 25 Leaders in Disease Management." Most recently, Dr. Levine was named as Director of the Patient-Centered Primary Care Collaborative in April 2012.

Dr. Levine earned his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco and is board-certified in internal medicine. Prior to pursuing his medical career, he attended Harvard College, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. He resides in Los Angeles, California.
