NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Nov 2, 2015) - Dr. J. Laurance Hill, with 55 years' experience in the healthcare field and now semi-retired, is Professor Emeritus of Surgery at the University of Maryland and at Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. Hill earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Ohio Wesleyan University before attending Ohio State University School of Medicine, where he received his Medical Doctorate.

With top skills of general surgery, cardio-thoracic surgery, pediatric surgery, transplantation, clinical research, cancer treatment, epidemiology, infectious disease, and critical care, to name a few, Dr. Hill is an exceptional health care professional.

When asked to recall a pivotal event or accomplishment in his life, Dr. Hill said it was the Vietnam War. In 1966 through 1968, Dr. Laurance Hill did what many others would not: during a time of intense social turmoil, he heeded the call and chose to serve his country. Enlisting in the U.S. Army and serving as a Captain and Commander of a surgical unit, he began his service at Long Binh and then moved up-country with the U.S. Marines in action near Danang, the DMZ, and the Ho Chi Minh Trail.

Returning stateside in 1968, Dr. J. Laurance Hill began an amazing 55-year career before semi-retiring. He has written over 100 articles documenting laboratory and clinical research, medical information and surgical textbooks. Dr. Hill is the well-known skilled surgeon who performed the famous ground-breaking surgical separation of conjoined twins sharing a heart, liver, diaphragm and chest wall in 1986. The girls, Ciera and Tiera Bennett were successfully separated at the age of 2 months by Dr. Hill and his 24-member medical team. Throughout his career, Dr. Hill has additionally been involved in clinical research, public health, public speaking, and grant writing, to mention only a few of his accomplishments.

Dr. J. Laurance Hill is affiliated with the American Pediatric Surgical Association, the American College of Surgeons, the American Surgical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Southern Surgical Association, and the Society of University Surgeons.

When he isn't performing surgery, consulting, teaching, public speaking, or engaged in research, Dr. J. Laurance Hill enjoys mountain climbing and music.
