LONGMONT, CO--(Marketwired - Apr 16, 2014) - MediJane Holdings Inc. (OTCQB: MJMD) ("MediJane" or "MJMD" or the "Company") is pleased to announce that Dr. Joseph Cohen has agreed to assume the role of Chief Medical Officer and join the board of directors of the Company.
Dr. Cohen has developed a complimentary and innovative approach to wellness that combines functional medicine with the utilization of natural substances, such as medicinal cannabis and other formulations. Holos Health, a Dr. Cohen supported Medical Marijuana Evaluation facility in Boulder, Colorado, was the recipient of the Best of Boulder Award in 2012 and 2013 for Best Medical Marijuana Evaluations and Best Alternative Health Care Practitioners. Dr. Cohen also holds the position of Chief Medical Advisor to a significant Connecticut licensed medical marijuana company.
"I'm absolutely thrilled to be involved in a project that I'm so passionate about," stated Dr. Cohen. "This industry is on the cusp of fantastic new medical breakthroughs and I'm proud to be working with MediJane to do our part to ensure the long-term sustainability of medical delivery systems for the safe and legal access to medical marijuana."
Having moved to Boulder, Colorado, in 1991, Dr. Cohen practiced obstetrics and gynecology initially with the Boulder Women's Clinic and then formed Full Circle Health Associates, a multi-discipline group that combined conventional and integrative medicine. During that time, Dr. Cohen was both the medical director of the Center for Integrative Therapeutics at Longmont United Hospital, as well as department chair in OB/GYN and pediatrics. Under his direction, integrative approaches such as acupuncture, reiki, and massage therapy were brought into a hospital setting. In 1993, Dr. Cohen was awarded "Best Delivery Man" by Denver Westward magazine. During his 30 years' experience as an obstetrician/gynecologist, he assisted women in approximately 10,000 births.
In 2001, Dr. Cohen left Colorado and began working with women from several different cultures. This included Hispanic women at The Medical Center of Aurora where he worked as a hospitalist, Native American women in Wyoming (Arapaho and Shoshoni tribes) and Maori women in Whanganui, New Zealand. During the past decade he has been studying functional medicine. Since returning to Boulder from New Zealand in 2009, he has integrated medical marijuana into his holistic functional medicine practice.
In addition to carrying a private medical practice in Boulder, Colorado, Dr. Cohen is currently medical director for the Natural Plant Initiative for Cancer Research, Holos Health, and for Journey 2 Life, an alternative and holistic health services provider, and is also a member of the Institute for Functional Medicine. Dr. Cohen received his Doctor of Osteopathy degree in 1979 after completing his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Bridgeport Hospital in affiliation with Yale University School of Medicine.
