Dr. Mariusz Sapijaszko Becomes New CDA President

OTTAWA, ON--(Marketwired - June 22, 2016) - Dr. Mariusz Sapijaszko, a prominent Edmonton dermatologist, will assume the presidency of the Canadian Dermatology Association (CDA) for 2016 - 2017 at the CDA's Annual General Meeting, in Saskatoon, on June 25, 2016.

"This is a critical juncture for dermatology in Canada," said Dr. Sapijaszko. "Now more than ever our specialty needs to play a strategic leadership role in determining how dermatologic care will be delivered in the future. Dr. Sapijaszko brings a wealth of medical and organizational experience to the role of president. He is an Associate Clinical Professor in the division of dermatology at the University of Alberta. In addition, he is Medical Director of the Western Canada Dermatology Institute and Youthful Image Clinic in Edmonton, a non-hospital surgical centre.

Dr. Sapijaszko completed medical school at the University of Calgary and his dermatology training at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. He subsequently received advanced training in Mohs skin cancer surgery, dermatologic cosmetic surgery and laser surgery at the University of California in San Francisco.

He is known as an internationally trained dermatologist as well as a cosmetic and laser surgery expert. Dr. Sapijaszko is involved in training future dermatologists in his academic role, and is also a frequently an invited lecturer at national and international events on topics related to skin cancer and cosmetic surgery. As a researcher, he is interested in exploring skin cancer prevention and treatment as well as cosmetic procedures.

Dr. Sapijaszko is a member of numerous professional associations, including the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, Canadian Society for Dermatologic Surgery, Canadian Dermatology Association, American Academy of Dermatology, American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery and the American Society for Lasers in Medicine and Surgery. He is currently President of the Canadian Dermatology Association.
