Dr. Nancy Gallini Appointed Member to the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - June 20, 2013) - The Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of Industry, Minister of State (Agriculture) and Minister responsible for the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), today announced the appointment of Dr. Nancy Gallini to SSHRC.

"It is my pleasure to welcome Dr. Gallini as a new member of the Council," said Minister Paradis. "The depth and breadth of her expertise in economics, competition and intellectual property issues will greatly benefit the work of SSHRC."

Dr. Gallini is currently Professor of Economics at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and was Dean at UBC's Faculty of Arts from 2002 to 2010. Previously, she was both Professor and Chair of the Department of Economics at the University of Toronto (U of T) and taught at U of T's Faculty of Law. She has held many visiting professor positions around the world, including Hitotsubashi University (Japan), the University of New South Wales (Australia), the University of Auckland (New Zealand), Delhi School of Economics (India), the University of Geneva (Switzerland), the Centre de Recherche en Économie et Statistique (France), and Yale Law School (United States of America).

Dr. Gallini holds a doctorate in Resource Economics from the University of California, Berkeley, as well as a Master of Arts in Economics and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from the University of Missouri. She has been published in a number of research journals, with particular focus on the economics of intellectual property.
