Dr. Tzi-Cker Chiueh, Head of ITRI's Information and Communications Labs, Won the Prestigious 2016 IEEE INFOCOM Test of Time Paper Award

HSINCHU, TAIWAN--(Marketwired - Apr 12, 2016) - The 2016 IEEE International Conference on Computer Communications (INFOCOM) presented the "Test of Time Paper Award" to Dr. Tzi-Cker Chiueh, General Director of ITRI's Information and Communications Research Laboratories, on April 12 in San Francisco. IEEE INFOCOM is a top ranked conference on networking and communication, with a paper acceptance rate of under 20 percent. It selects papers published between 10-12 years ago in its proceedings that are most cited and recognizes their significant impact on the ICT research community with the Test of Time Paper Award. Dr. Chiueh's paper, which was published in Proceedings of the 2005 IEEE INFOCOM, has been cited for over 1,734 times and becomes the sole paper to receive the honor this year.

Dr. Tom Hou, Chair of IEEE INFOCOM Steering Committee, states that IEEE INFOCOM is the top conference on computer networks consistently ranked by Google Scholar and Microsoft Academic Search. He indicates that the paper "Architecture and Algorithms for an IEEE 802.11-Based Multi-Channel Wireless Mesh Network" is the one that has been mostly cited from 2004-2006 INFOCOM proceedings and is thus selected by the INFOCOM award committee as the Test of Time Paper Award for 2016.

Dr. Chiueh formerly served as the director of Core Research in Symantec Research Labs and a research professor for the Computer Science Department of Stony Brook University. He has published over 200 academic papers and has been honored with many international awards for best paper. His research results have been successfully developed into concrete products and are widely known among the ICT industry and academia.

Under Dr. Chiueh's leadership, ITRI's Information & Communications Laboratories has been dedicated to cutting-edge technology and application services such as 5G wireless communication, smart mobile devices, advanced microchip and system design, cloud computing and application services, and smart networks. The Labs have unveiled ITRI Cloud OS, the world's most complete operating system for cloud data centers. With its comprehensive virtual functions of the server, storage, network, and administration, the system has been successfully exported to Japan, China, and Southeast Asia. ITRI has also developed next generation 5G communication technology that cuts into international standards, with the transfer rate 10 times faster than the current 4G commercial network speed, firmly establishing Taiwan's influence on the international ICT arena.
