Dr. Yu Hu Recognized as the Smartest Data Scientist in Utah

InsideSales.com Senior Research Engineer Wins Utah Data Competition

SILICON SLOPES, UT--(Marketwired - October 28, 2014) - InsideSales.com, the leading cloud-based sales acceleration technology company, today announced that Dr. Yu Hu, senior research engineer, has earned the distinction of Smartest Data Scientist in Utah.

Dr. Hu won $7,200 by taking first place in the first Utah Data Competition, sponsored by Utah's high-tech titans, including HireVue, Domo, InsideSales.com, Overstock.com, Skullcandy and AtTask.

In this year's data science challenge, participants were asked to develop innovative approaches to predict semiconductor yield. Dr. Hu applied an augmented Lagrangian method, specifically the alternating direction method of multipliers, to predict yields.

Dr. Hu holds a bachelor's of science in mathematics from Nankai University in China and a Ph.D. in mathematics from Brigham Young University. He completed his doctoral research in mathematical finance. After earning his Ph.D. in 2013, he joined InsideSales.com, where his research focuses on machine learning and data mining to enable the world's top companies to accelerate sales through data science.
