Dresner Advisory Services Issues First Edition Business Intelligence Competency Center Market Study

NASHUA, NH--(Marketwired - Jun 30, 2014) - Dresner Advisory Services today launched a new report looking at the role and effectiveness of the Business Intelligence Competency Center (BICC), a group within an organization charged with defining, delivering, documenting, and promoting best-practice business intelligence (BI) solutions.

The Business Intelligence Competency Center Market Study, part of the Wisdom of Crowds® family of research, is a new report providing a focused and detailed look at this important and growing organizational role.

"For the past three years a growing percentage of our Wisdom of Crowds survey respondents have identified themselves as part of the BICC. This year we turned the spotlight on this valuable cross-organizational group to more closely examine their budget, goals, resources, and success rate," said Howard Dresner, founder and chief research officer at Dresner Advisory Services.

The 2014 Business Intelligence Competency Center Market Study goes in depth to investigate the defined roles of the BICC, as well as budgeting and funding practices, functions represented, and the success rate and value of BI programs and projects.

The study found that while the responsibility and oversight of the BICC can fall to different departments within an organization, it most often rolls up to IT, and that business analysts are, by function, the most likely resources found in the BI Competency Center.

"Although the concept of the BI Competency Center has been in existence for more than 10 years it has only recently begun to see a more concrete role in, and direct responsibility for, the successful deployment of BI," continued Mr. Dresner. "We see that the range of time a BICC has been used within an organization varies greatly, with many showing long-term experience as well as several recent adopters. What's telling is the investment companies are showing. Across the board there is active investment in the BICC, with fewer than 10 percent of organizations decreasing their 2015 budget."

The annual Wisdom of Crowds Business Intelligence research is based on data collected on usage and deployment trends, products, and vendors. BI users in all roles and throughout all industries contributed to provide a complete view of realities, plans, and perceptions of the BI market. To purchase a copy of the Business Intelligence Competency Center Market Study, visit www.biccreport.com
