The study found that while the responsibility and oversight of the BICC can fall to different departments within an organization, it most often rolls up to IT, and that business analysts are, by function, the most likely resources found in the BI Competency Center.
"Although the concept of the BI Competency Center has been in existence for more than 10 years it has only recently begun to see a more concrete role in, and direct responsibility for, the successful deployment of BI," continued Mr. Dresner. "We see that the range of time a BICC has been used within an organization varies greatly, with many showing long-term experience as well as several recent adopters. What's telling is the investment companies are showing. Across the board there is active investment in the BICC, with fewer than 10 percent of organizations decreasing their 2015 budget."
