Dresner Advisory Services Publishes 2015 Location Intelligence Market Study

Penetration Remains Modest but Expected to Increase Over Next Three Years; Growing Percentage of Respondents Consider Location Intelligence Critically Important

NASHUA, NH--(Marketwired - Jan 29, 2015) - Dresner Advisory Services today released the 2015 Location Intelligence Market Study, part of the Wisdom of Crowds® series of research. The report examines current and planned usage of Location Intelligence, a specific form of business intelligence where location or geography are the primary dimensions used for analysis. Location Intelligence analyses are conducted predominantly by viewing data points overlaid onto an interactive map.

The 2015 study investigates key issues around Location Intelligence including perceptions and intentions; end user requirements and features such as geocoding support, third-party GIS integration, and mobile intelligence; industry-support for Location Intelligence, and user requirements compared to industry capabilities.

"We are excited to kick off our 2015 research calendar with the 2nd annual look at the Location Intelligence market," said Howard Dresner, founder and chief research officer at Dresner Advisory Services. "There are number of illuminating findings around usage and perceptions across geographies, company size, vertical markets, and functions. For example, small organizations are most likely to see Location Intelligence as very important or critically important to their planning, with respondents in retail and wholesale placing more value on Location Intelligence than users in other industries."

User interest in Location Intelligence features mostly rose across the board in 2015. According to the report, the most important Location Intelligence features are map-based visualization of information, drill-down navigation, and maps that are embedded in dashboards.

"From the supplier standpoint, we see vendors having a mixed view of the significance of Location Intelligence, with an increasing number this year saying it has critical importance," continued Mr. Dresner. "Industry support is only somewhat aligned with user priorities for Location Intelligence features and geocoding, but GIS integration and mobile feature support are well aligned."

Wisdom of Crowds® research is based on data collected on usage and deployment trends, products, and vendors. BI users in all roles and throughout all industries contributed to provide a complete view of realities, plans, and perceptions of the BI market.
