Dresner Advisory Services Publishes 2016 Location Intelligence Market Study

Location Intelligence Ranks at the Midpoint of Strategic Business Intelligence Technologies and Initiatives, Trailing Dashboards and Visualization but Ahead of Cloud Computing and Big Data

NASHUA, NH--(Marketwired - Jan 27, 2016) - Dresner Advisory Services today issued the 2016 Location Intelligence Market Study, part of the Wisdom of Crowds® series of research. Location Intelligence is a form of Business Intelligence (BI) where the dominant dimension used for analysis is location or geography. Most typically, though not exclusively, analyses are conducted by viewing data points overlaid onto an interactive map interface.

"We began tracking user interest and deployment of location intelligence in 2014 and have seen its perceived importance increase slightly but steadily across this time," said Howard Dresner, founder and chief research officer at Dresner Advisory Services. "Though views are mixed over time, we believe this is evidence of a level of 'stickiness' rather than a typical hype cycle of excitement and disillusion."

According to the 2016 report, user targets for location follow a hierarchy from executives through the management ranks and increasingly external parties. Respondents are interested or already pursuing activity across a wide span of location parameters, increasingly led by province/state and country. Users prioritize location intelligence features as map-based visualizations, drill down, and dashboard embedding.

The software industry has a positive view of location intelligence, with the report showing a shift from "important" to "very important." Vendors are attending to a span of location intelligence capabilities, with the top feature of built-in native geocoding supported by more than 80 percent, somewhat in line with user priorities.

"Industry estimations of the importance of location intelligence are somewhat higher than end user sentiment, suggesting an emerging market dynamic," continued Mr. Dresner.
