Dresner Advisory Services Publishes 6th Edition Mobile Computing/Mobile Business Intelligence Market Study

Business Intelligence Represents Second Highest Priority in Mobile Applications for First Time

NASHUA, NH--(Marketwired - Dec 11, 2014) -  Dresner Advisory Services today published the 2014 Mobile Computing/Mobile Business Intelligence Market Study, part of the Wisdom of Crowds® Series of Research. The annual report examines deployment trends and user perceptions and intentions around mobile computing and mobile Business Intelligence (BI). 

Apple's iOS phones and tablets remain the top priority, followed by Android smartphones and tablets. Microsoft has consistently gained ground, solidifying its position as the number three mobile platform after iOS and Android.

"While we've seen some shifts in this 6th iteration of our Mobile report, other areas are fairly constant year over year," said Howard Dresner, founder and chief research officer at Dresner Advisory Services. "Most notably business intelligence for the first time represents the number-two priority in mobile applications, ahead of calendaring and scheduling and just behind email."

"Executives continue to be the top consumers and targets for mobile BI, although managers are now increasingly targeted. Overall penetration of mobile business intelligence remains modest, with 20 percent of organizations reporting no mobile capabilities at all, and more than 60 percent indicating 10 percent or fewer users with mobile access," continued Mr. Dresner.

The report shows small organizations are the most ambitious in their current mobile BI deployments and future plans, and they rank mobile BI more highly than larger organizations. Respondents in Asia Pacific and Latin America, where the economics and cultural adoption of mobile technologies grew most quickly, place a higher priority on mobile BI than other regions. And across all vertical industries and functions, the roles and organizations with a strong external field or customer-facing presence place a higher priority upon mobile BI.
