Drive Eco and Do Your Part for the Environment With National Bank Insurance

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Sept. 20, 2007) - National Bank of Canada (TSX:NA)

National Bank Insurance is pleased to be involved in saving the environment by offering Quebec drivers aged 16 to 24 the first insurance policy in the province that allows them to offset a portion of their vehicle's CO2 emissions.

We are all aware that one of the best ways to protect the environment is to change our transportation habits. That's why Drive Eco insurance, exclusive to National Bank Insurance, encourages young drivers to enrol in the ZEROCO2 program, which aims to counteract carbon dioxide emissions by planting and maintaining a variety of trees on land that will benefit communities across Quebec. These trees will then act as carbon sinks that trap CO2 by photosynthesis.

When drivers take out a two-year car insurance policy, National Bank Insurance will offset their first 3,000 kilometres of fuel consumption (the equivalent of a trip around the province) at no extra charge.

All Drive Eco policyholders will receive a letter confirming that trees have been planted in their name. They will also be able to pinpoint the location of their trees on the ZEROCO2 website at, allowing them to better appreciate the significance of their gesture. The number of trees planted will be based on the average CO2 emissions produced by a compact car, the type of vehicle most commonly driven by young people.

In addition, National Bank Insurance will offset the emissions generated by all its employees who drive to work, allowing them to help the environment as well as demonstrating the company's commitment to reducing our ecological footprint.

This new initiative stems from National Bank Insurance's determination to lend a hand to young Quebecers who are concerned about the environment. The company has always rewarded clients with a good driving record, and in 2007, introduced its "The less you drive, the less you pay" concept, allowing drivers who use alternate methods of transportation to save money.

The Drive Eco offer is available until December 31, 2007.
