DriveScale Expands into Asia to Support Growing Demand for Software Composable Infrastructure

Led by Former President of Sun Japan, DriveScale is Unlocking the Promise of Big Data for Enterprises in Asia

SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwired - Nov 29, 2017) - DriveScale, the leader in delivering Software Composable Infrastructure (SCI) for modern workloads, today announced its strategic expansion into Asia. Commencing operations in this region has been accelerated by DriveScale engagements at a number of Japan's and China's top companies in the manufacturing, automotive, retail and consumer electronics industries. DriveScale is enabling these companies to build true private clouds, transforming their data centers to be more productive, responsive and easier to manage. In related news this week, DriveScale is featured at the Silicon Valley New Japan Summit at Stanford University.

DriveScale's elite team of industry veterans has been instrumental in shaping the computer and networking industry over the past four decades. Led by CEO Gene Banman, DriveScale has pioneered the concept of software composable infrastructure, which is disaggregating storage from servers, as a unique way to architect and build data centers for modern workloads.

"Over the past several decades, I have seen tremendous opportunity for IT innovation in Asia and we knew early on that expanding into the region would be a key element of our growth strategy," Banman said. "Today's organizations recognize that being data-driven is mission-critical in our hyperconnected world and are increasingly searching for solutions and local resources to help digitally transform their businesses. With technical teams in place, DriveScale is supporting the demand for SCI at some of Asia's top companies. We look forward to strengthening our global presence in one of the most innovative and robust economies in the world."

Banman's experience in expanding into Asia stems from his time at Sun Microsystems, where he was based in Japan for five years as President of Nihon-Sun, growing Sun's business in the region.

DriveScale emerged from a three-year stealth development effort in May 2016 with an $18 million funding round led by Pelion Venture Partners with participation from Nautilus Venture Partners and Ingrasys, a subsidiary of Chinese electronics manufacturing giant Foxconn. Ingrasys also entered into a supplier partnership agreement with DriveScale in 2016. Connie Sheng, Founding Managing Director at Nautilus Venture Partners, joined DriveScale's Board of Directors as one of the first outside members in 2016.

"Data center growth is extremely rapid in China to support the tremendous proliferation of cell phone-based apps and commerce. There is huge potential for DriveScale's technology in China and the rest of Asia," Sheng said.

On Nov. 28-29, DriveScale is attending the Silicon Valley New Japan Summit 2017 at Stanford University. In collaboration with The SV Startups 100, a Japanese tech media project featuring 100 Silicon Valley startups, the Silicon Valley New Japan Project from the Stanford University Asia-Pacific Research Center and Japan Management Association, the Summit is an invitation-only event that brings together Silicon Valley startups and Japanese companies for two days of lectures, panel discussions and business development sessions.
