Driving for a Cleaner Future: Ontario Chrysler Dealer First in Canada to go Carbon Neutral

WINDSOR, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 18, 2007) -

Attention: Environment, Automotive and Business Editors.

James Bennett, Dealer Principal of Oxford Dodge, London ON and Elizabeth Bennett, Dealer Principal of Provincial Chrysler, Windsor ON have partnered with Toronto-based cleanairpass inc. to make every vehicle retailed from each dealership carbon neutral. Effective today, all new and pre-owned vehicles retailed will be registered with the cleanairpass program at the dealerships' expense, which will effectively offset the carbon emissions of the vehicle during the first year of ownership. In the first year of this program, the two dealerships expect to offset over 15,000 tonnes of carbon emissions.

The average car produces about five tonnes of climate-changing emissions but purchasing a cleanairpass certifies that someone else is cleaning up after your car so you can drive with a cleaner conscience. By taking this bold step toward encouraging their customers to put themselves into the most fuel-efficient vehicle of their choice and then taking the responsibility for their emission trail, Oxford Dodge and Provincial Chrysler are making a proactive move towards creating a cleaner planet. "It's an opportunity for our dealerships to make a small but significant difference!" says Bennett. "We also hope that this program will stimulate a dialogue with our customers and in our communities about the action we can all take to reduce our personal impact on the environment."

Although not the first in North America, this will be the first initiative of this scope in Canada. Bennett explains that reducing the emissions footprint of each vehicle retailed at the two family-owned dealerships is really an extension of the reduce, reuse and recycle philosophy that will help create a cleaner environment for our children. Through their partnership with cleanairpass inc., the integrity of the carbon that is sourced will be validated and verified. Initially, the offset credits will help support a tire recycling facility in Quebec and as the program grows other Canadian projects will be selected.

"Our partnership with cleanairpass does three important things", explains Bennett. "First, it empowers our customers to take responsibility for their personal vehicle's emissions. Second, its adds significant consumer clout to the effort to stop major manufacturing emissions. And third, it financially supports renewable energy producers and other projects that reduce air emissions. As individuals and business leaders, we can make a difference."

"This will also encourage our two dealerships to implement forward-thinking ideas about conservation and to find ways that we can reduce our corporate footprint and contribute to a cleaner world for future generations," Bennett says. While every vehicle retailed from Oxford Dodge and Provincial Chrysler will be carbon neutral for one year, customers will be informed and encouraged on how to further offset their personal carbon footprints with the help of cleanairpass inc.

The move also complements the direction of THE NEW CHRYSLER as they initiate an exciting innovative era as a global corporation. The company will continue to invest in product development, especially BlueTec and hybrid technologies for the future, to enable Chrysler vehicles to meet the most stringent standards in the world for emissions. They will also continue to forge new global alliances and partnerships to keep the company at the forefront of engineering, innovation and quality. Likewise, their existing association with Daimler will continue through joint research and development programs and the sharing of important technologies on clean diesel engines, hybrids and fuel cell technology.
