Drummondville Airport to Modernize Infrastructure

Government of Canada supports development of Drummondville Airport, in Centre-du-Quebec

DRUMMONDVILLE, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - July 31, 2015) - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)

The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced that the City of Drummondville has been granted funding for a project aimed at expanding and modernizing its regional airport infrastructure.

This support is being awarded in the form of a $3,000,000 non-repayable contribution through CED's Quebec Economic Development Program and is contingent on a contribution agreement being signed between the Agency and the client.

Quick facts

  • Drummondville Airport, administered by the Société de développement économique de Drummondville (SDED), records about 10,000 aircraft movements per year. The airport is used primarily by regional businesses, a renowned provincial flight school and various aircraft maintenance companies employing nearly 30 people.

  • The project will involve repairing, widening and extending the existing runway, adding both a traffic lane and access road and upgrading the airport's drainage, landscaping, signage and navigation systems. This work is aimed at improving user safety and promoting an increase in the number of business flights.

  • The contribution from CED will serve exclusively for the costs involved in extending the runway and building the new traffic lane.

  • According to SDED, completion of this project will result in the maintenance and creation of some 40 direct jobs and the creation of 35 temporary jobs during the construction phase.
